Put on gloves and make the paste
Put on your rubber gloves first. Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with enough bleach to form a thick paste (about 2-3 tablespoons). The consistency should be like toothpaste — thick enough to stick to vertical grout lines.

Apply paste to the grout lines
Use your old toothbrush to spread the paste directly onto the grout lines. Press it into the grout and work in small sections. Don't worry about getting paste on the tiles — it won't damage them.

Wait 10 minutes, then scrub
Let the paste sit for 10 minutes to work on the stains. Then scrub each grout line with the toothbrush using short, firm strokes. You'll see the dirt lifting off almost immediately.

Rinse thoroughly
Rinse everything with clean water — use a wet cloth or pour water over the area. Make sure all the bleach paste is completely washed away. Dry with a clean towel or let air dry.
