Build a Study Plan (2 to 4 Months)
The DCAT emphasizes accuracy over speed compared to other CETs. Focus on depth of understanding rather than rushing through items. Here is a recommended study timeline:
Month 1: Foundation
- Review algebra fundamentals — equations, inequalities, factoring, and word problems (age, work, distance/rate/time)
- Start daily reading comprehension practice — read English articles and identify main ideas, inferences, and vocabulary in context
- Begin abstract reasoning drills — pattern recognition, series completion, figure analogies
Month 2-3: Deep Dive
- Tackle geometry and basic trigonometry — these appear more heavily in DCAT than other CETs
- Study general science with emphasis on chemistry (periodic table, chemical reactions, mole concept) and physics (motion, forces, energy)
- Practice English grammar — subject-verb agreement, tenses, sentence construction, and paragraph organization
- Work on vocabulary building — synonyms, antonyms, context clues, and word roots
Month 4: Polish
- Take full-length DCAT practice tests under timed conditions — at least once a week
- Review weak areas identified from practice tests
- Do a final pass on abstract reasoning patterns — these are the easiest to improve with practice
-
-

Buwan 1: Pundasyon
- I-review ang algebra fundamentals — equations, inequalities, factoring, at word problems (age, work, distance/rate/time)
Buwan 4: Pagpapakinis
- Kumuha ng full-length DCAT practice tests na may tiyempo — kahit isa bawat linggo
- I-review ang mga mahina mong area batay sa mga resulta ng practice tests
- Gumawa ng final pass sa abstract reasoning patterns — ito ang pinakamadaling i-improve sa pamamagitan ng practice
-
Prepare for Exam Day
What to bring: printed DCAT test permit, valid school ID, No. 2 pencils, eraser, and a reliable watch (no phones allowed inside). For online test takers, ensure you have a stable internet connection, a working webcam, and complete the mandatory Mock Online Test before your scheduled exam date.
Test-taking strategy: The DCAT rewards accuracy — do not rush. Answer questions you are confident about first, then return to harder ones. For abstract reasoning, look for the simplest pattern that explains the sequence. For math, always double-check word problem setups before solving.
-
Wait for Results and Confirm Your Slot
DCAT results are typically released 2 to 4 months after the testing period — usually around February to April for the main batch. Results are posted on the Archers Hub portal and announced on the DLSU website and social media pages.
If you qualify, you will be offered admission to one of your chosen programs. You then need to confirm your slot by paying the reservation fee within the stated deadline. If you were not admitted to your first-choice program, you may be offered your second or third choice depending on cutoff scores and availability.
-
Explore Reconsideration or Special DCAT
If you do not qualify in the main DCAT, DLSU offers a Special DCAT window (usually January to April) for another chance. You can also submit a letter of reconsideration to the Office of Admissions and Scholarships. Include your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and a compelling case for why DLSU is the right fit for you.
-
Maaari ka ring magsumite ng letter of reconsideration sa Office of Admissions and Scholarships. Isama ang iyong mga academic achievement, extracurricular activities, at isang mapanghikayat na dahilan kung bakit ang DLSU ang tamang university para sa iyo.
Exam Coverage Breakdown
Breakdown ng Saklaw ng Exam
The DCAT is a multiple-choice exam lasting 2 to 3 hours that covers up to seven sections:
Ang DCAT ay isang multiple-choice exam na tumatagal ng 2 hanggang 3 oras na sumasaklaw ng hanggang pitong seksyon:
- Abstract Reasoning / General Aptitude — Pattern recognition, figure analogies, number sequences, logical reasoning, and spatial visualization. This section tests your innate aptitude for problem-solving and does not depend on school-taught content.
- Mathematics Proficiency — Algebra (equations, inequalities, functions), geometry (angles, area, volume), basic trigonometry, word problems (age, work, mixture, distance-rate-time), and some statistics. Heavier on applied problem-solving than pure computation.
- Reading Comprehension — Passage-based questions testing your ability to identify main ideas, draw inferences, determine tone, and understand vocabulary in context. This is a standalone section separate from English Proficiency.
- English Proficiency — Grammar and correct usage, sentence completion, paragraph organization, and vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, word roots). The DCAT tests English only — no Filipino section unlike the UPCAT.
- Science Proficiency — General science with emphasis on chemistry (periodic table, chemical reactions, stoichiometry) and physics (motion, forces, energy, waves). Some biology topics may also appear. Based primarily on Grade 11 STEM content.
- Critical Reading and Reasoning — Analysis and evaluation of arguments, identifying assumptions, drawing logical conclusions, and distinguishing fact from opinion in written passages.
- Research and Statistics — Basic research methodology, data interpretation, probability, descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode), and reading charts, tables, and graphs.
- Abstract Reasoning / General Aptitude — Pattern recognition, figure analogies, number sequences, logical reasoning, at spatial visualization. Sinusubok ng seksyon na ito ang iyong natural na aptitude para sa problem-solving at hindi nakadepende sa content na itinuro sa school.
- Mathematics Proficiency — Algebra (equations, inequalities, functions), geometry (angles, area, volume), basic trigonometry, word problems (age, work, mixture, distance-rate-time), at ilang statistics. Mas mabigat sa applied problem-solving kaysa sa purong computation.
- Reading Comprehension — Mga tanong batay sa passage na sinusubok ang kakayahan mong tukuyin ang main ideas, gumawa ng inferences, matukoy ang tone, at unawain ang vocabulary sa konteksto. Ito ay isang hiwalay na seksyon mula sa English Proficiency.
- English Proficiency — Grammar at correct usage, sentence completion, paragraph organization, at vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, word roots).
Choosing Your Program (1st to 3rd Choice)
Pagpili ng Program (1st hanggang 3rd Choice)
During application, you select up to 3 degree programs ranked by preference. Your DCAT score determines which program you qualify for — competitive programs like BS Computer Science, BS Biology, and BS Accountancy typically have higher cutoffs. Strategy matters:
Sa panahon ng application, pipili ka ng hanggang 3 degree programs na naka-rank ayon sa preference. Ang DCAT score mo ang nagde-determine kung aling program ang qualify ka — ang mga competitive programs tulad ng BS Computer Science, BS Biology, at BS Accountancy ay karaniwang may mas mataas na cutoffs. Mahalaga ang estratehiya:
- 1st choice: Your dream program — aim high but be realistic based on your grades and review confidence
- 2nd choice: A strong backup within the same college — this gives you the best chance to shift later if needed
- 3rd choice: A program with historically lower cutoffs that you still genuinely find interesting
- 1st choice: Ang dream program mo — mag-aim nang mataas pero maging realistic batay sa iyong grades at review confidence
- 2nd choice: Isang matibay na backup sa loob ng parehong college — mas malaki ang chance mong mag-shift mamaya kung kailangan
- 3rd choice: Isang program na may historically lower cutoffs na totoong interesado ka pa rin
DLSU does not publicly release exact cutoff scores per program, but popular programs consistently require higher DCAT percentile rankings. If admitted to your 2nd or 3rd choice, you can apply to shift programs after your first year if you maintain good grades.
Hindi inilalabas ng DLSU ang eksaktong cutoff scores bawat program, pero ang mga popular na programs ay palaging nangangailangan ng mas mataas na DCAT percentile rankings. Kung natanggap ka sa 2nd o 3rd choice mo, maaari kang mag-apply na mag-shift ng program pagkatapos ng first year mo kung maganda ang grades mo.
Financial Aid & Scholarships

Lahat ng grants ay nire-renew bawat trimester basta naabot mo ang mga retention requirements (minimum GPA, full course load). Mag-apply sa pamamagitan ng Office of Admissions and Scholarships pagkatapos makumpirma ang admission mo.
Pro Tips
Mga Payo
- Abstract reasoning is your equalizer — Unlike math or science, this section does not depend on what school taught you. Anyone can improve dramatically with 2 to 3 weeks of daily pattern drills. Free resources are available on YouTube (search "abstract reasoning practice Philippines").
- The DCAT math is heavier on trig and geometry than UPCAT — If you are from a non-STEM strand, budget extra time on SOH-CAH-TOA, unit circle basics, and geometric proofs. These are not advanced — Grade 11 level is sufficient.
- For online DCAT, do the mock test seriously — The Mock Online Test is mandatory, and it familiarizes you with the proctoring software and interface. Technical issues on exam day will cost you time and composure. Test your webcam, internet, and browser in advance.
- Apply early in the application window — Earlier applicants get earlier testing dates, which means earlier results and more time to plan. Late applicants may be pushed to the Special DCAT window with fewer available slots.
- Research your program choice at the college level, not just the department — Shifting between programs within the same DLSU college (e.g., College of Computer Studies) is easier than shifting across colleges. Pick your 2nd and 3rd choices from the same college when possible.
- Check the SLS Grant income brackets before dismissing DLSU as too expensive — Many families earning under ₱1.8M annually qualify for partial to full financial aid. Compute your family's gross annual income and compare it to the thresholds above.
